The land use planning process began with a series of five visioning sessions held throughout the County during Fall 2002 to give the public an opportunity to share their opinions of current and future land use. Public input from the visioning sessions was incorporated into a Vision Statement, which will form part of the foundation of the new Future Land Use Plan.
Since it has been several years since the Vision Statement was created, we developed an online survey to gather public comments on the Vision Statement to ensure that it is still valid. The survey was available from mid-November through the end of December 2007, and is now closed.
During January and February 2008, the Planning Commission and Planning Department Staff will be reviewing the survey responses to determine if changes need to be made to the Vision Statement. Please stay tuned for further updates regarding the Vision Statement!

In Winter 2003, the County Planning Commission distributed a countywide Community Attitude Survey to gather input from yearround and seasonal residents concerning their land use/development preferences. Surveys were mailed to 10,427 registered voters and 2,060 non-resident property owners. Surveys were also mailed to all local elected and appointed officials within the County. The survey results were compiled and analyzed and developed into a draft report, which can be viewed or printed by clicking on the appropriate link below.
Before using the 2003 survey results in developing the plan, the County Planning Commission decided to determine if the results are still valid, given the passage of time. In Fall 2007, the same survey was mailed to a sample of the County population (all local elected and appointed officials), and it was determined that the 2003 survey results are still valid. A comparison of the 2003 and 2007 survey results can be viewed or printed by clicking on the appropriate link below.
